Makes Shifts Happen
Hello beautiful,
This is your nightly reminder to drop your shoulders, loosen your jaw and take a deep long breath.
How did that feel?
If I had to guess, amazing, as your body craves to do it once more…
This is an exercise I call anchoring.
Anchoring is a simple tool that’s purpose is to stabilize your emotions and bring more focus & productivity into your day. In science terms, anchoring is the vehicle that brings our bodies into a parasympathetic state.
Deep breathing practices have gained popularity in the western world due to their significant effects on respiratory, cardiovascular, cardiorespiratory and autonomic nervous systems. Speaking specifically to the autonomic nervous system, deep breathing helps regulates heart rate, digestion, body temperature, metabolism and many more.
As we search for rest in our busy days, just know that this simple tool can be called upon at anytime. There are several “protocols” that we will explore in future weeks, but for today, let me introduce a protocol called box breathing. Box breathing is a 1:1:1:1 protocol, meaning all inhales, holds and exhale are assigned the same interval.
Find a comfortable seat, close your eyes & follow the below for 4-5 minutes
Inhale - 4 seconds
Hold - 4 seconds
Exhale - 4 seconds
Hold - 4 seconds
Let the shift happen :)
Enjoy!
